The next sitting of the House of Representatives has been delayed by a week as the federal government makes passing same-sex marriage a top priority.
The lower house will sit on the 4th of December, instead of next Monday (27/11), to deal with the marriage equality issue because the Senate isn't expected to finish its debate on the draft laws until the 30th of November.
Leader of the House Christopher Pyne says the Australian people want the two issues finalised before the end of the year.
Federal Opposition leader Bill Shorten has called Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull a 'coward' for delaying parliament sitting.
Mr Shorten says it's unhealthy for the country's democracy and he urging for business as usual on Monday.
