One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has defended her entry into parliament dressed in a burqa, saying her stunt was about national security.

The Senator wore the full Islamic covering ahead of a debate in parliament in Canberra on banning full-face coverings in public.

The move has been criticised by both sides of politics.

But she says she is not embarassed by what she did.

Labor MP Anne Aly, who is a Muslim, has slammed Senator Hanson's actions.
Ali Kadri from the Islamic Council of Queensland has told the A-B-C it was an act of racism and bigotry.

Independent senator Jacqui Lambie says Senator Hanson could have done things differently.
