Bill Shorten will release his "positive plans" for Queensland while campaigning in Townsville.

The opposition leader says a Labor government will invest in local jobs and improve the living standards of Queenslanders.

This will include job-creating infrastructure to drive the Queensland economy for the next generation.

"The projects we're backing will create local jobs for local people and guarantee a start for more apprentices," Mr Shorten says.

KEY POINTS OF PLAN INCLUDE:

* Infrastructure investments including $100 million towards building a first class Townsville Stadium in partnership with the Queensland Labor Government.

* $800 million towards the Brisbane Cross River Rail Project, which will create 8000 new local jobs, including 800 apprenticeships.

* $418 million to improve road safety, create more than 1000 jobs and boost productivity for North and Central Queenslanders, including $80 million for the Gladstone Port Access Road and $150 million for the Walkerston Bypass.

* Implement Great Barrier Reef Plan, which will be supported by a fund of $500 million over five years.
