Industry bodies say Australian films and television shows are at risk of extinction if local content rules don't change to include digital streaming platforms such as Netflix.
The Australian film and TV industry is kicking off the Make It Australian campaign in Melbourne's Federation Square today (18/09), followed by events in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart.
The campaign calls for reform to local content rules, which ensure commercial free-to-air T-V stations broadcast a minimum of 55 per cent Australian programming annually, so they apply to digital platforms.
President of the Australian Writers' Guild Jan Sardi says it mirrors a campaign of the same name from the early 1970s, which lead to the current local content rules.
