Today is the last day Australians can have their say on same-sex marriage.

The public can return their forms to A-B-S (Australian Bureau of Statistics) offices directly in all capital cities - except Melbourne, which is closed for the public holiday - until 4.30pm.

A new Essential Poll in The Guardian suggests 64 per cent of respondents ticked "yes", thirty-one per cent "no" and five per cent declined to answer.

The result will be announced on November 15.
