Former prime minister Tony Abbott has reignited the immigration debate, calling for migration levels to be reduced.
He claims up to a quarter of a million people are permanently migrating to Australia annually and says it needs to be lowered in the interests of the Australian people.
However, the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows a lesser figure of permanent migrants to Australia at just under 190,000 for the 2015-16 period.
During an interview with his former Chief of Staff, Peta Credlin on Sky News, Mr Abbott admits immigration is a huge part of Australia, but it needs to be scaled back.
