Car-maker Toyota will shut down its operations in Victoria today (03/10) ending ninety years of manufacturing in the state.
About 2700 Toyota workers will be without a job after the last petrol Camry rolls off the company's Altona North production line in Melbourne's west.
The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union says up to five times that number of workers will be affected throughout the component supply chain.
The union says it's a sad day for the whole country and a tough blow for thousands of affected workers and their families.
Toyota announced in 2014 it was pulling out of Australian car manufacturing, and says more than 2200 workers have since been through its job skills training program, which will continue for another six months.
