Greens and independents announce plans for a cross-party marriage equality bill

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull faces a tough fight with the opposition and a number of independents over the issue of same-sex marriage. Labor is under pressure to support the Turnbull government's plan for a plebiscite on same-sex marriage after the Greens and four key crossbench senators said they would block any enabling legislation.
