The government is focused on revising the legal provisions known as Direction 99, which prevents the deportation of an immigrant convicted of a criminal act from Australia. Following a request from New Zealand's former Prime Minister, Jacinta Arden, the Labor government took steps to provide these legal provisions and the government expresses confidence that the relationship between New Zealand will not be affected through the revision of these laws.
