How To Drive With An Overseas Licence

Driving in Australia

Being able to drive in a car is a necessity for many new arrivals to Australia. Your licence requirements depend on where you live and what visa status you have.

If you are a visitor or a temporary visa holder, in most Australian states and territories (except the Northern Territory) you can drive on a current overseas licence. If your licence is in a language other than English, you must also carry an English official translation or an International Driving Permit.
