In 1889, 3 years after demonstrations in America in which 6 people died and many were injured, the Congress of the 2nd International in Paris established May Day as Labor Day. For years we were forced to decorate the windows and march in processions. Much nicer, however, were the May traditions associated with love, blooming trees and lengthening days.
