The weather in recent months has been dictated by La Niña

Australian summer of 2020/21 was a little colder and wetter than in previous years. It was dictated by the La Niña phenomenon, which is characterized by unusually low ocean temperatures in the equatorial Pacific. It is the opposite of the equally well-known El Niño phenomenon, which in turn is revealed by the high ocean temperatures at the equator.
