26.január oslavujeme ako štátny sviatok - Deň Austrálie. Počas neho oceňujeme zásluhy a veľké činy Austrálčanov, tešíme sa z udeľovania občianstva novým Austrálčanom, a obklopujeme sa austrálskymi symbolmi. Pre mnohých pôvodných obyvateľov tejto zeme je to však bolestivý deň, pretože im pripomína násilie a ničenie ich hodnôt.
