In memoriam Stanko Penca (12.11.1948 - 21.4.2019)

The Slovenian community in Australia mourns the loss of Stanko (Stan) Penca, who passed away on Easter Sunday, 21 April, 2019 in Wantirna, Victoria, aged 70. He was born on 12th November, 1948 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Stan was very popular and active within Melbourne's Slovenian community. He was the president of the Slovenian Association Melbourne for a number of years, vice-president of the Council of Slovenian Organisations in Victoria and a representative for CSOV on the Ethnic Community Council of Victoria. His funeral was held on May 3rd, 2019 at the Slovenian church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. His wake was held at the Slovenian Association Melbourne, where he was an active member for over 40 years. Hundreds of mourners attended to pay their last respects to a truly wonderful and highly respected family man who contributed so much to the Slovenian Community. He didn't let ill health get in the way of his tireless work! Julija Čampelj, president of the Slovenian Association Melbourne and Peter Mandelj OAM JP, vice-president of the Council of Slovenian Organisations in Victoria and coordinator of the Slovenian Welfare and Information Office in Melbourne, paid tribute to Stan, a humble man who was also a very proud Australian Slovenian. We express our sincerest condolences to Marija, Stan's wife of 45 years, daughter Samantha Pišotek and son Simon and their families. The Slovenian community will miss a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. May he rest in God's peace.
