Stanka Gregorič turns 80!

Stanka Gregorič, who was actively involved within the Slovenian Community in Australia, before moving back to live in Slovenia recently celebrated her 80th birthday. Stanka is very well known and respected for her valuable work as a writer, journalist and publisher of numerous Slovenian periodicals and newspapers in Australia. These include Slovensko Pismo (The Slovenian Letter), Glas Slovenije (The Voice of Slovenia), The Battle for Independent Slovenia in Australia (Avstralska Bitka za Samostojno Slovenijo), amongst other publications. Stanka was also an instrumental figure in the movement for Slovenian independence in Australia. She helped to establish the Australian Slovenian Conference (Avstralska Slovenska Konferenca), along with the Slovenian National Councils in each state (Slovenski Narodni Sveti), which were all part of the World Slovenian Congress (Svetovni Slovenski Kongres). Stanka also worked as a Slovenian radio broadcaster on Radio 3EA in Melbourne. She lived in Melbourne and Sydney during her time in Australia, and now lives in the beautiful Slovenian town of Lenart, not far from Maribor. Stanka spoke to SBS Slovenian about her life in Australia and Slovenia, reminiscing about the 'good old days' during the historic movement for Slovenian Independence in Australia in the early 1990s. Stanka celebrated her 80th birthday on August 22nd this year and we wish her all the very best!
