Long live Slovenia!

The declaration of independence of the Republic of Slovenia on June 25th, 1991 is the biggest event to take place in the over 1300 year history of the Slovenian nation. It was a very emotional and tense time for Slovenians living in the homeland and around the world. This includes the Slovenian Community in Australia, which played a pivotal role in promoting the cause for Slovenian independence and international recognition. SBS Radio also played a pivotal role in this regard, with Slovenian program broadcasters and presenters on 2EA in Sydney and 3EA in Melbourne actively reporting on the latest news and events following the declaration of Slovenian independence and the attack by the Yugoslav Army on Slovenia which led to the 10 day independence war. Let's take a trip down memory lane, back to June and July 1991 with snippets of Slovenian programs which were broadcast at that time on 2EA and 3EA. The presenters at that time were Ivo and Helena Leber, Derry Maddison and Elica Rizmal on 3EA in Melbourne and Mariza Ličan and Peter Krope on 2EA in Sydney. Mariza Ličan, Ivo Leber and Elica Rizmal are sadly no longer with us.
