Africa mourns the King of Afro-jazz

Oliver Mtukudzi, Zimbabwe's and Africa's most renowned musician, has died aged 66 after dominating the Afro-Jazz genre in a career spanning four-decades.

Tuku was a key part of revolution fighting white-minority rule in Zimbabwe, his lyrics often carried social messages about HIV/Aids and coded political commentary which led to some of his songs being banned in the country.

Tuku was a singer and guitarist who mixed several musical styles, to create his own distinctive Afro-jazz sound, known to his fans as "Tuku Music".

In a long and successful career, Tuku released 67 albums and toured the world including Australia where last toured in 2015.

Oliver Mtukudzi, will be remembered for his famous song Neria, which advocated for gender equality.
