Kenya's interior minister Fred Matiang’i, confirmed the news residents had been anxiously waiting for through his press briefing.

The country is now secure and the nation remains calm, that Kenyans and all of our visitors are safe and should feel free to continue getting about their normal businesses. Let us all remember that terrorism will never defeat us and we as a country remain strong and determined and we will not surrender or bend to any manipulation or efforts of terrorist elements.
It's been reported that at least seven people are dead, with authorities expecting the death toll to rise as investigations continue following the terrorist attack. In the mean time family members have started laying their loved ones to rest.

The Somalia based militant group al-Shabab has been quick to claim responsibility for the attack, citing it was in response to US president Trump's decision to move his nations embassy to Jerusalem.
Kenya Police Service's Inspector-General Boinnet, has appealed to Kenyans to stay calm and not to disseminate any photos from the attack as investigations continue.
