Whilst hundreds of polling stations opened early for voting, many voters appeared to head the call of the opposition coalition to boycott the polls.

Turn out for voting was also similarly low, in areas considered to be the ruling party's strong holds as indicated in the IEBC's statistics.

The electoral body has announced voting will be rescheduled for Saturday 28 October 2017, in opposition strong holds where the voting process was disrupted according to an announcement from the IEBC and the Kenya High Commission in Australia.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is leading in the results count, thus far with final results expected shortly.
