Survivors of the attack on a luxury hotel in the capita Ouagadougou, say the gunmen were targeting white people.

Security forces backed by French and U-S military personnel recaptured the hotel during an hours-long operation in which all four attackers were killed.

While some 150 hostages were freed, at least 28 people from 18 countries died, with one survivor saying jihadists returned repeatedly to a restaurant popular with foreigners to execute the wounded lying amid overturned tables and chairs.

Sheikh Sidi Mohamed Saday from the Burkina Faso Federation of Muslims Association says the attack is reprehensible.

He said "As citizens, of Burkina Faso, as well as Muslims - we are very concerned by these attacks. Some individuals have hijacked the name of Islam. We do not recognise Islam in these acts. We condemn this barbarism. It can not be explained by any religion."
