The 38-year-old senior constable was charged with murder on Saturday morning, 18 months after his two-month-old son succumbed to his injuries at Victoria Point in Brisbane's east.

The officer had been on suspension on full pay but this will be reviewed now that charges had been laid.

Queensland Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski addressed the media.

He said "There were fairly significant injuries to the baby. These sort of crimes, irrespective of who commits them are tragic and terrible. I can only say that we are committed and as we have been in this incidence to making sure that the offender is brought to justice."

The police officer was especting to face Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
