The Assistant Minister for Children and Families says he is considering a new program to help skilled refugees get re-qualified for jobs in Australia.

David Gillespie's remarks come as a number of Coalition MPs are suggesting changes to employment visas to prevent migrants and refugees sponsored by regional employers from leaving later for metropolitan areas.

A number of regional towns have successfully maintained local industries with workers from refugee backgrounds.

For example, more than a hundred refugees from Myanmar work in the Victorian town of Nhill, almost exclusively for a poultry manufacturer.
