Australians stuck in Uganda unrest

Uganda has descended into civil unrest, with citizens engaging the police and army in running battles as protests increasing following the arrest of the pop star turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi who goes by the stage name Bobi Wine.


Ugandan police fired live bullets and tear gas on Monday to disperse a crowd of protesters, who were demanding the release of a jailed pop star turned politician Bobi Wine, who is a prominent critic of President Yoweri Museveni.

The police force has confirmed, it has arrested over 103 people who were involved in the protests following the arrest of opposition MP Robert Kyagulanyi, his fellow MP's and civil rights activists in Uganda. It has also been reported that, one person was killed in the protests.

SBS Swahili spoke with former Logan City Council (Queensland) candidate Blaise Itabelo, who told us about the unfolding events in Kampala, Uganda.
