The week in politics is ending with the Coalition's signature energy policy before the state governments in a crucial meeting.

The National Energy Guarantee needs the approval of the states and the Coalition partyroom if it is ever to become a reality.

And aside from energy politics, one of Labor's star recruits at the last election announced she'd resign after weeks of scandalous allegations. But Emma Husar did that herself just hours after Mr Shorten said that.

She says she will not recontest her seat at the upcoming federal election ((likely in 2019)), saying the pressure was becoming too much for her family to bear.

Emma Husar continues to deny the allegations.

Parliament resumes after the long winter break next week from 13 August 2018.
