Election 2019: What happened this week

Week three of the federal election campaign began with the opening of the early voting period and the first of three leaders debates.

But the headlines were dominated by questionable online comments by candidates, and their subsequent resignations or disendorsement.

Next week will see a third prime-time televised leaders debate ((May 8)), this time at the National Press Club.
