The Turnbull Government has secured one of its most significant victories, successfully passing its signature Budget policy through parliament.

The $144 billion package means tax cuts for millions of Australians and comes after late negotiations with the Senate cross bench.

Labor has promised, if it wins government, to double the tax cuts for low-income earners and implement them more quickly than the Government.

It also says it will repeal Stages 2 and 3 of the Government's tax plan. Tax relief for middle Australia is now set to be a major issue in the five by-elections in July and the next federal election.
