Opposition Leader Bill Shorten is calling for changes in how the deputy prime minister is determined in a Coalition government following Barnaby Joyce's planned resignation from the position.
Mr Joyce has announced he will step down as National Party leader on Monday, (26 feb 2018) opening the way for a new deputy prime minister.
Mr Joyce says he will resign at an 8am party-room meeting on Monday, where the Nationals will seek nominations for a new leader.
