The 2017-18 federal budget dominated headlines this week, the government had supplied hints of what would be included and finally the budget was read out officially on the night of Tuesday 9May2017.

The Treasurer Scott Morrison said, the budget was about proper decisions, and for a better future.

A few hours before the budget was read out, Lucy Gichuhi was sworn in as South Australias new Senator.

This came after several days of legal arguments in the high court on the eligibility of Mrs Gichuhi to take up the role.

The legal arguments were a result of the disqualification of former Family First leader Bob Day from the federal Senate and the status of Mrs Gichuhi's nationality.

Despite the legal battle, the high court dismissed the opposition to Mrs Gichuhi taking up office and on Tuesday 9 May2017, she was officialy sworn in and became the new indipendent Senator of South Australia.
