It's seldom for a first time writer to have his/her work shortlisted for the NSW Premier's History Awards.
This years (2016) finalists included James Roy and Noel Zihabamwe's: One Thousand Hills. A fictional story for teenagers based on the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
SBS Swahili attended the awards ceremony where we spoke with Noel shortly after he was declared the 2016 winner.
