As Australians prepare to mark Anzac Day, (april 25) the day holds a particular significance for some federal politicians who served in the military.


From a special-forces soldier to an experimental test pilot to a retired general, they come from across the political spectrum.

A few have shared their thoughts with SBS on what Anzac Day means to them.

Parliament has identified 119 politicians who served during the First World War. No federal MPs died during that war.

This year marks the final year of the centenary of Anzac. It will be 100 years since the armistice was signed and the war was declared over.
