Reggae music will be protected by the United Nations after being listed as a 'cultural treasure'.

The genre made most famous by Bob Marley has been recognised for its contribution to social justice, development of multiculturalism and worldwide appeal.

Other 2018 additions to the UN list of intangible cultural heritage traditions are Slovenian bobbin lacemaking, Georgian chidaoba wrestling, the Irish sport of hurling, Poland’s szopka nativity scene tradition and the traditional spring festive rites of Kazakh horse breeders.
