Like many countries in Africa, the Central African country of Burundi, continues to grapple with growing numbers of street children especially as the country is going through a period of political and civil instability. Low standards of living are part of the reasons blamed for this increase. Burundi's capital, Bujumbura is thought to have more than 2000 street children out of 3500 street children in the entire country. The government has created several policies and initiatives to address this issue, however a lack of adequate funds have thwarted efforts of organisations tasked with helping the street children. Our correspondent Ramadhani Kibuga has filed the following story from Bujumbura, Burundi.
