The Prime Minister was thousands of kilometers away from Parliament this week but he couldn't escape the questions from one of the year's most-anticipated political interviews.

Whether you liked it or hated it, former Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce sat down for a paid interview with his former staffer Vikki Campion, who'd given birth to his son.

Mr Joyce told channel Seven's "Sunday Night" he knew the pregnancy would end his time as leader of the Nationals party.
