The United States says it will impose more economic sanctions on Russia for supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his apparent use of chemical weapons.

It comes after the US, France and Britain jointly launched missile strikes on Syria over a suspected chemical weapons attack on the Syrian town of Douma.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, a close ally of President Assad, warns further Western attacks on Syria will bring chaos to world affairs.

President Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, says the strikes have damaged the chances of achieving political resolution in the seven-year Syrian conflict.
