Does culture influence teaching/learning Mathematics?
Jeyanthi Subramanian
The Learner's Perspective Study (LPS) pioneered by Dr David Clarke inspired a search on how mathematics is taught in the Indian Subcontinent and how students from the subcontinent in Australia learn mathematics. Kulasegaram Sanchayan interviews one of the researchers, Jeyanthi Subramanian, who has adopted LPS methodology to understand classroom teaching in Tamil Nadu, and compares that with a high school mathematics teacher and two students in New South Wales. In this segment, the researcher also exposes us to ancient Tamil text on Mathematics, "Kannakkathikaaram", and Kanitha Nool."
