“We congratulate Mr. Trump,” Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said. “I am openly calling on the new president from here about the urgent extradition of Fethullah Gülen, the mastermind, executor and perpetrator of the heinous July 15 coup attempt, who lives on U.S. soil.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did not congratulate Trump in his first speech afer Trump’s election victory. He said a new era had begun in the U.S., adding that he wanted to view the choice favorably.
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also congratulated Trump, vowing to strengthen strategic cooperation with Washington.
“We congratulate @realDonaldTrump, President-elect of the USA. We desire to reinforce with the USA our strategic cooperation based on trust,” Çavuşoğlu tweeted.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has congratulated Donald Trump on being elected the next president of the United States.
Mr Turnbull said it had been a long and hard-fought campaign that was described by Mr Trump himself as nasty at times.
"I understand that Australians have been confronted by the intensity of the political battle in the US," he said.
Mr Turnbull said the US is a "great nation" had the capacity to come together and it would behind Mr Trump.
