The Turkish community in Australia are celebrating the centenary of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s landing at the Black Sea port of Samsun, which is seen as the beginning of Turkey’s Independence War after the end of World War One. Ever since, the national day is marked as the Commemorating Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day.
