In 2018, Hande Akcay was diagnosed with breast cancer. After four surgeries and treatment at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, she started on long walks as a part of her psychological therapy. In return for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation inspiring her to get better, she decided to raise money for them by participating in this year’s Run Melbourne 2019 Marathon. She completed the 21K marathon in 3.5 hours. She talked to SBS Radio Turkish program about what she felt while running a marathon so soon after the cancer treatment.
