On the 566th anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul, SBS Turkish speaks to Dr Esra Ozsuer on the importance of the city to both Turks and Greeks. Ozsuer says the city’s main importance for both lies in its religious significance, adding that it is unfortunate that the Byzantine and Ottoman history is buried under the weight of the growing metropolis.
