US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says it's time for Iranian-backed militias who helped Iraq defeat Islamic State to "go home" after a rare meeting with Iraq and Saudi Arabia. A US-backed The Kurdish-led militia known as the Syrian Democratic Forces has declared victory over the Islamic State group in its former "capital" of Raqqa, declaring the northern Syrian city free of any extremist presence after a four-month battle that left it in ruins.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday slammed the United States for backing the SDF and demanded an explanation for posters hung in Raqqa of Abdullah Ocalan, the imprisoned leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, which Turkey considers a terrorist organization.
