High Court decision sees five MPs leave parliament

Three Labor M-Ps and one independent have resigned over their dual citizenship status, just hours after the High Court ruled Senator Katy Gallagher [[GAL-uh-HER]] was invalidly elected under Section 44. The ruling means Ms Gallagher is ineligible to serve in the federal parliament. The court found the former A-C-T chief minister breached the constitution's ban on dual citizens because she still held British citizenship at the time of the last election.
