Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis. We talked with Violet Aroyo from The European Breast Cancer Coalition, Turkey Brunch. She shared her stories regarding Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She lost her mother and three aunties because of breast cancer. Due to the genetic nature of her specific cancer, she chose to undergo a double mastectomy and have both her breasts surgically removed in order to minimise the risk of her cancer.
