Politicians line up in support of Turkish operation into Syria, opponents face prosecution

Journalist Yavuz Oghan tells SBS Turkish that the agreement between the presidents of Turkey and the U.S. last weekend paved the way for this week’s Turkish military operation into northern Syria. The Turkish media has been following the developments closely from just across the border, coming into danger, he said, adding that many local civilians on the Turkish side were moving away from border. He also said that journalists and politicians voicing their opposition to the military operation against the Kurdish YPG/PYD forces across the border in Syria were faced with formal prosecution and that almost all political parties and politicians, apart from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) were voicing their support for the operation.
