For the past two years, Settlement Services Australia and the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) have cooperated to hold the SSI Diversity in Music Award. Singer, songwriter Behiye Suren was one of the six attendees of this year’s event. Speaking to SBS Turkish, she said the aim of the event is to empower women artists through collaboration and cooperation. Rather than wasting their energies on competing with each other or against men, women artists should be focused on making art, said Suren and commended the organisers of the SSI Diversity in Music Awards by facilitating such a process. Suren said the musicians she came across during the two-day program were all trailblazers, in that they were all trying to find ways to produce original music inspired by their roots and Australia while reaching the audience. "Future generations will follow the tracks we are now laying out," she said. (AUDIO IN TURKISH)
