Former Australian foreign minister, Bob Carr, says what he refers to as the 'unresolved problem of Palestine' is a recruiting tool for 'murderous jihadists'.
It comes after the New South Wales branch is pushing for the Labor party federally to unconditionally recognise a separate Palestinian state.
Jewish community leaders say it would only slow progress even further.
