Last week the trial of six activists of the Democratic Brotherhood, including Nguyen Van Dai, was sentenced to a total of 66 years in jail, on charges of "plotting to overthrow the people's administration" of article 79 of the Vietnam Penal Code.


Lawyer Nguyen Van Dai received the heaviest of six cases: 15 years in prison and five years of house arrest, Pastor Nguyen Trung Ton and freelance journalist Truong Minh Duc were sentenced to 12 years in prison and 3 years of house arrest, Blogger Nguyen Bac Truyen was sentenced to 11 years in prison while Le Thu Ha, a lawyer from Dai, received a nine-year sentence. Engineer Pham Van Troi received the lowest sentence with 7 years in prison.
