Cook's Arrival from First Nations' Perspectives
This resource accompanies NITV documentary Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky, presented and co-written by Steven Oliver. Looky Looky reimagines Captain James Cook's landing through contemporary, original music performed by a range of First Nations artists. This resource is a springboard into classroom study of colonisation, reconciliation, Terra Nullius, sovereignty, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, cultures and histories. The resource can be used to facilitate mature, nuanced exploration of the ongoing impacts of colonisation and to support students to have respectful conversations about Australian history. This teacher resource includes: Short clips selected from the documentary; Context, background and further reading for teachers; Practical classroom activities; Frameworks to develop cultural safety, empathy, critical and creative thinking.
