In The Life Of Harry Dare, John Moore plays a man obsessed with an abandoned VW Kombi van he retrieves from the harbour. To the frustration of his wife and son, he spends all his time fixing up the vehicle, but is stopped for speeding the first time he drives it. The van is stolen by drug dealers and, while trying to retrieve it, Harry finds himself investigating the disappearance of his father years earlier. This modestly appealing mixture of comedy and thriller benefits enormously from the central performance of John Moore as the goodhearted, but greatly putupon, Harry, while there are interesting contributions in support from Nicholas Hope, as a racist cop, and Aaron Wilton, as Harry`s amateur detective son. Filmed in and around Adelaide by director Aleksi Vellis, Harry Dare doesn`t in the end make the most of some intriguing ideas, but nevertheless it`s engaging entertainment.
