Congrats to our J-rock Session host [Alexandros] for winning “New Artist of the Year” at this year’s Japanese Gold Disc Awards on February 26!
The band followed up with a statement on its Facebook:
"We received 'New Artist of the Year" award. Thank you so much for your support. Especially as a rock band, it's an honor to receive such a brilliant award. This award does not just reflect the accomplishment from last year, but it is also the result of many years of experience with the support from our staffs, family, friends, my cat and last but not least, all you loyal fans. [Alexandros] will keep making exciting music so hopefully, we can win another award with out the "new" in the artist category." –Yoohei
The annual ceremony now in its 30th year, looks at sales data to designate winners from both Japan and abroad.
This year major winners were Arashi (Artist of the Year Japan; Album of the Year), TVXQ (Artist of the Year Asia), EXO (Artist of the Year Asia) and Super Junior D&E ( Album of the Year Asia), Sam Smith (Western Artist of the Year) among others. The single of the year award went to AKB48 for “Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai.”
