Being born in Korea isn't required if you want to be a Korean star - but cuteness is though ;)

Being born in Korea isn't a requirement to be a K-pop star (though it helps!). In fact, some of your favourite idols were actually from all over the globe before they settled down in good old Korea.

From being New Zealand to the United States, here are 16 K-pop stars who originally weren't from Korea.

16. GOT7's Mark

Not only is Mark from Los Angeles, but he is actually of Taiwanese descent.

15. Black Pink's Rosé

Rosé was born in New Zealand and actually spent a good deal of her childhood in Australia before moving to South Korea after signing with YG Entertainment. Don't worry Aussie fans, she still holds Australia dear to her heart because she stops by quite often!

While we're on the subject of Black Pink...

14. Black Pink's Lisa

Black Pink's badass rapper was actually from Thailand and was in fact the only person accepted into YG Entertainment during the 2010 round of auditions. Go Lisa!

13. EXO's Lay

The super-talented Lay has been doing a heap of activities in China recently - that's because that's where is was originally from!

12. TWICE's Tzuyu

She may be fluent in Korean but TWICE's adorable maknae is actually from Taiwan!

Speaking of TWICE...

11. TWICE's Mina, Momo, and Sana

Considering Mina, Momo, and Sana are all from Japan, we think it's alright to bend the rules a little bit in order to squeeze them all into one entry!

10. Eric Nam

If you've seen Eric Nam on TV, chances are that you would've noticed his excellent grasp of English. That's because he was originally born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia!

9. Nichkhun

Born in California to Thai parents of Chinese descent, Nichkhun may not technically be Korean but he definitely has the cute Korean look perfected!

8. BamBam of Got7

Not only is BamBam the (2nd) youngest member of Got7, he's also from Thailand!

7. Jackson Wang of Got7

Jackson was just a kid from Hong Kong who happened to be a national fencer - until he decided to swap his sword for a microphone!

6. Amber of f(x)

You may not know it, but Amber is actually Taiwanese-American and was born in California!

5. Henry Lau of Super Junior M

This may surprise you, but Henry Lau was actually born in Toronto, Canada to a Hong Kongese father and a Taiwanese mother!

4. Jia of Miss A

Jia is actually Chinese, however, she's wasn't the only one in her former group...

3. Fei of Miss A

Like her ex Miss A groupmate, Fei also hails from China!

2. Ailee

While she does have Korean parents, Ailee was actually born in Colorado and raised in New Jersey!

1. Krystal & Jessica Jung

What are the chances that two sisters born and raised in San Francisco, California, would both seperately make it in the K-pop industry? Probably pretty slim!
